Current Projects

Below are a few of the projects and topics in which Shore Consulting Group is currently engaged or has been engaged:

Participated in the development of a Middle Peninsula Local Government Dredging Implementation Plan in the counties of Gloucester, Mathews, and Middlesex, Virginia. Without continual maintenance of the navigable waterways in the Middle Peninsula of Virginia, marine traffic will have to be diverted, boating safety will be jeopardized, and recreational and economic activity curtailed. The impact will result in reduced economic activity, reduced shoreline property values, and fewer real estate taxes flowing to the local government. The Implementation Plan analyzes the costs of dredging 22 channels and determines the feasibility of establishing a regional dredging program either through contracting with the private sector, establishing a publicly operated dredging program and/or a combination public/private partnership.

Participated in the development of a Section 408 evaluation for the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel expansion project in the cities of Hampton and Norfolk, Virginia. The evaluation included the identification of potential impacts on federal projects in the expansion footprint. Section 14 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899, as amended (33 USC 408), provides that the United States Army Corps of Engineers may grant permission for another party to alter a Civil Works project upon a determination that the alteration proposed will not be injurious to the public interest and will not impair the usefulness of the Civil Works project. The resulting Section 408 permit, in concert with corresponding joint permit application requirements, paved the way for construction of the $3.8 billion project, the largest highway construction project in Virginia’s history.
